How Many Calories a Day do I need?

With all the talk of calorie intake out there, how do you know how many calories you should eat in a day? There are so many components to it. Age, height, weight, sex, and activity level to name a few. How many calories a day do I need?

How many calories does a woman need?

We will start with an average woman at 5’5” weighing 140 pounds. If she were 18-35 years old recommended activity would be 2100 calories. From there it goes down. For a 36-55-year-old with activity, it would be 1900 and 55+ would be 1600. The more activity level the more calories you could consume. And that would depend on if you wanted to maintain your weight or lose weight.

How many calories should I eat a day to lose weight

So for example, if you were working out 4 times a week you could add around 200-300 calories to your diet to maintain. But knowing an approximate is a great way to control your intake. Even if you’re recommended 2000, if you feel full stop eating! If you are only at 1500 for the day you don’t need to eat a bag of Swedish fish to make up for it! And remember, whatever you don’t eat will stay on your body – hips, stomach, etc…

How many calories a day does a man need?

For an average man at 5’11” and 165 pounds, he could eat 2800 calories for 18-35, 2500 for 35-55, and 2100 for 55+. Again, taking into account all of the above.

This is the quick answer to your question but also answers why men tend to lose weight faster than women. do. If you and your man are in the 18-35 range and both dieting, and you both go to a 1600 calorie a day diet, he would lose approximately 20% faster.
