Are Black Raspberries Healthy?

Raspberries come in six different colors. The one that we are used to seeing is red. However,  also come in white, purple, black, orange and yellow.

Black Raspberry Seed is similar to, but should not be confused with Red Raspberry Seed. Black Raspberry Seed offers an impressive level of Ellagitannins,  one of the most powerful classes of anti-oxidants. Are Black Raspberries Healthy?

Anti-oxidants

Raspberry seeds contain antioxidants called anthocyanins. Antioxidants help reduce damage from substances called free radicals. As a result, they can cause oxidative stress that can harm your cells. The ORAC scale, which measures the antioxidant potential of substances, places raspberries at a very respectable rate. The BHBN notes that this is roughly equivalent to the ORAC capabilities of blueberries. So what are some benefits of Raspberry Seeds?

Polyunsaturated fats

This is a type of fat found mostly in plant-based foods and oils. Also, evidence shows that eating foods rich in polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) help maintain blood cholesterol levels.

Vitamin E

Your body requires vitamin E to support and maintain your immune system. Vitamin E is also essential for supporting heart health.

Fiber

Raspberry seeds are a good source of fiber. Most of this fiber comes from the seeds. The fiber and water content in raspberries help to maintain a healthy digestive tract. Adequate fiber promotes regularity. Therefore this is crucial for the daily excretion toxins through the bile and stool. Furthermore, recent studies have shown that dietary fiber may play a role in maintaining the immune system.

Essential Fatty Acids

A study published in the Journal of Food Science in April 2004 found that the oil and meal from black raspberry seeds contain linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid, two types of essential fatty acids, which may be beneficial for supporting nutrition. Linoleic acid is an omega-6 fat, and alpha-linolenic acid is an omega-3 fat. Omega-3 fats may help maintain heart health

Rich in vitamins and minerals, low in calories

A cup of fresh raspberries contains high levels of assorted vitamins and minerals needed for healthy body functions. Such as potassium, calcium, folate, they are rich in the B-complex group of vitamins and vitamin K. Also good amounts of vitamin B-6, niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid. Lastly, lutein and zeaxanthin, this pair of carotenoids or plant pigments can help maintain vision. Furthermore, a cup of fresh raspberries contains about 1.5 g of protein, 8 g of dietary fiber, and 14.7 g of carbohydrates. Most noteworthy they are cholesterol-free, low in fat and sodium, and only 64 calories

Supports Joint Health

Polyphenols are abundant phytochemicals in Black Raspberries. Black Raspberries also support the synovial fluid of the joints for people. Vitamin C is another strong antioxidant found in berries. It helps support the health of collagen, which helps maintain cartilage stores and aids in joint flexibility.
