What Healthy Foods for Fall Should I Eat?

Welcome To Your Antioxidant Rich Fall Season!

Summer is almost over. I hope you spent time eating the wonderfully antioxidant-rich berries, fruits, and veggies that provide the nutrients your body needs. I also hope the call of ice cream, sodas and summer poolside drinks wasn’t too strong!

Fall is just around the corner! Ah yes, that lovely time of year when the leaves turn and the pumpkins and squash take over the backyard!

With fall, comes a whole new set of healthy foods you can use in your diet.  Knowing what’s in season and buying those foods that are harvested in the fall helps you to get more nutrients your body needs.  When you have the right foods and supplements it helps to fight off illness as well as stay strong and healthy.

You can give you and your entire family a strong boost of wellness by including these Healthy Foods for Fall in your diet.

These Healthy Foods for Fall Are Also Antioxidant Rich:

Pomegranates

They’re also a great source of vitamin c and folate too! Pomegranates are in season a good long time.  Their season starts in September and goes all the way through to February. Except for California. That season starts in October and ends in January.

Enjoying fresh pomegranates and pomegranate juice during the season is a great and tasty way to give nutrients your body needs a whole new level of flair!

Here’s one more tidbit for those of you who enjoy a glass of wine: Although wine does have an antioxidant or two in it (actually more), a glass of pomegranate juice has much higher antioxidant levels than the red wine!  Who knew?

Artichokes

When they come from California, they’re in season year round. They still have a peak season though.  That’s March through May and again in October. As well as being antioxidant-rich, artichokes contain vitamin c, folic acid, potassium, and fiber. For a great recipe click here!

Pecans

They’re harvested in late September all the way through November.  But pecans are not just antioxidant rich.

They contain more than 19 vitamins and minerals – including vitamin A, vitamin E, folic acid, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, several B vitamins, and zinc. So eat up and enjoy!

Cranberries

Gone are the days of cranberries only being thought of as a holiday sauce.  With the advent of antioxidant rich foods, cranberries got a whole new “lease on life”

.In addition to being a high antioxidant food source, they are also a good source of vitamin C, dietary fiber, and manganese, as well as a good source of vitamin E, vitamin K, copper and pantothenic acid.And . . . drum roll please . . . They are also touted for their anti-inflammatory properties and have been identified as a good cancer prevention food.  Indeed, cranberries are a must when considering nutrients your body needs.

Kidney Beans

Nothing says Healthy Foods for Fall like a steeping hot pot of chili made with fresh kidney beans, tomatoes, onions and your favorite “secret spices”.Turns out those kidney beans are also antioxidant-rich through and through!  Kidney Beans are typically harvested in early autumn when cultivated as a dry bean, so make sure you get the freshest beans you can!

Apples

Antioxidant-rich indeed!  In fact, apples are full of antioxidants.  They also provide four grams of dietary fiber in a serving.Apples are so versatile, there are so many ways to eat them, prepare them, and bake them.

They’re such a tradition for Autumn in most parts of the US.Isn’t it great to know that every time you eat an apple, you are killing toxins in your system?  I guess there really is some truth to that old saying, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away!”  They’re definitely a food that provides nutrients your body needs.

Veggies include Brussel sprouts, parsnips, turnips, rutabaga, cauliflower, squash, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes. All these are Healthy Foods of Fall, and they will give nutrients your body needs.

Fruits that also fit the “Healthy Foods for Fall include grapefruit, tangerines, kiwi, dates, and pears, though not a significant source of the antioxidant, they are absolutely foods that will give you nutrients your body needs.
